Adelaide Festival - Mass Movement

Simply Ballet is taking part in the 2025 Adelaide Festival dance work ‘Mass Movement’ by Stephanie Lake.

“Adelaide Festival’s opening weekend sees a one-moment-in-time dusk ‘happening’, as a mass of 1,000 dancers converge onto the natural amphitheatre of Elder Park for MASS MOVEMENT.

This thrillingly conceived work from one of Australia’s foremost choreographers, Stephanie Lake, is on a scale never before seen at Adelaide Festival, with dancers from every age group and genre coming together in a celebration of synchronised mass-movement.”

You can be a part of this exciting event if you fit the following criteria;

  • You have a positive attitude, and love performing!
  • You are South Australian based
  • You are at least 12 years old
  • You are committed to learning an intermediate level contemporary choreography from your dance teacher and will ensure you have practiced this prior to all optional training sessions and mandatory group rehearsals.

How does this work?

  • You will need to sign a Cast Member Agreement with the Adelaide Festival before January 24th to be registered. To register under Simply Ballet you need to have a current enrolment with the school.
  • Choreography will be taught at Simply Ballet in our Contemporary class (Wednesdays 6:30-7:30pm until Feb 26th 2025) or you will need to learn it yourself from videos supplied. The choreographic piece is substantial in length so you must be able to learn and perform a significant length of work.
  • Provide your own costume as per instructions from MASS MOVEMENT
  • There are some optional Zoom classes to learn the choreography from Stephanie Lake and her team in December 2024, and January 2025
  • You will need to attend group rehearsals on 22nd or 23rd of February 2025
  • You will need to attend dress rehearsals on the evening of 28th of February 2025
  • Be available for the performance on Saturday March 1st 2025

Simply Ballet is not in charge of, and does not have any influence over any decisions regarding choreography, costuming, or rehearsal schedules.  Your Cast Member Agreement is between yourself and the Adelaide Festival Corporation.

This is a volunteer event, however you will receive an Adelaide Festival Artist Pass which enables access to discount tickets and other opportunities as indicated on the pass during the Adelaide Festival 2025.
